Rangers want to sign Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley ahead of transfer deadline

Rangers are reportedly eyeing a move for Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley ahead of the transfer deadline on September 1.

According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the England international, who’s on around a £200k/week deal at Stamford Bridge is no longer wanted at the London club.

It’s understood that Gers may now have a real shot at landing him, having qualified for the Champions League, and Blues could even look to free him of his contract.

Nixon wrote on 29 August, “Rangers are looking into a deal for Chelsea outcast Ross Barkley – with the chance of offering him a crack at the Champions League.

“The Scottish giants are keen on midfield schemer Barkley and may have a real shot at landing him before the window shuts.

“Chelsea are looking to shift Barkley and could even free the former England midfielder.

“It would take a huge pay off to let Barkley go but new owner Todd Boehly may make an offer to let him move on.”

Big move

Champions League status now gives Rangers the opportunity to attract players they previously would not have thought of.

Barkley has years of experience in the Premier League and was linked with clubs in the English top flight.

However, none of them could offer him the chance of playing in the Champions League, something that he’ll get at Ibrox.

Players in the Premier League often fancy staying there but the lure of playing in the biggest club competition in the world is enough to tempt them to leave.

Rangers know that they have strengthen their squad if they have to regain the SPFL title from Chelsea and signing Barkley is the way to do that.

He’s a full England international who has showcased his skills and talent time and again and needs the perfect stage to silence his critics which he can now do in Glasgow.

Time is running out so a bid needs to be made soon.

In other Rangers news, the BBC never seem to learn their lessons as they persist with their embarrassing anti-Rangers agenda.
