Rangers have genuine interest to sign Ross Barkley after Chelsea release on Monday

Rangers have a genuine interest in sealing a big deal for Ross Barkley, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS journalist has reported that Celtic are also interested in the playmaker, as well as numerous clubs in the Premier League down in England.

Barkley is set to become one of the hottest properties available right now after leaving Chelsea on Monday by mutual consent after years of struggles at Stamford Bridge.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Monday afternoon [29 August], Jacobs shared that a Glasgow battle may well be on the cards.

“Ross Barkley has left Chelsea by mutual consent,” he wrote.

“There is genuine interest from Rangers and Celtic. Plenty of Premier League clubs have considered Barkley, too.”

Push.

It is time for Rangers to make another big statement.

Barkley is available, and he needs to go somewhere to prove himself yet again after years of torment at Chelsea where he never really quite made it.

Going somewhere that he can be reborn in a sense is important, and where better than Ibrox?

With Champions League football available every week as well as the chance to become the main central man in a huge push for silverware, it would be a great move.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will no doubt be making a personal push to get this one done with that attacking central option in midfield something that he is clearly crying out for.

All eyes are on this one, but there isn’t a timescale to get it done before the deadline with Barkley now a free agent, so it gives Ross Wilson the time to potentially wait and put together the best package.

Transfers like this may not come around very often, so now it is time to take advantage.
