Dan Plumley: Rangers will be delighted by TV talks after Pay-Per-View development
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers will be absolutely delighted with a potential Pay-Per-View model being introduced in Scotland.
The Finance Expert admitted it would benefit the Old Firm clubs massively compared to the rest of the Scottish Premiership, with more money able to be generated by their fan bases.
It comes as the potential switch has been mooted as Sky continue their talks with the SPFL over a new television deal moving forward from 2025.

“I think it’s the case for Rangers and Celtic,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“If you look at what that model does and giving the ability to sell their own rights for some of those games on a pay-per-view basis, you can see who would benefit most.
“The pros to that in terms of letting the club do that are clear, you’re in control of your own destiny, the downside is as a collective group of clubs, you’ll see who that benefits and if you’re Rangers, fantastic. The others will think they’re already ahead of us, we’re now going to get them a few games where they can generate more money than us and keep that gap getting bigger.
“For Rangers, I imagine they will be delighted with this news as we know how much more than can generate.”

This would put the Old Firm at another huge advantage, not that they need it.
Having said that, Rangers are included in nearly every single televised game in Scotland, and they have to be rewarded for carrying the burden that clubs lower in the league simply don’t bring to the table.
Talks will continue as the SPFL try to get a new television deal over the line, but given the backlash to initial proposals, it may take longer than one once thought.
