Alan Rough: Time might be right for Alfredo Morelos to leave Rangers

Alan Rough believes the time might be right for Alfredo Morelos to leave Rangers after the striker’s latest disciplinary issues.

Morelos was sent off in the second half of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership match against Hibernian at Easter Road on Saturday (20 August).

Rough has suggested that the Gers have far bigger things to worry about than Morelos and his lack of professionalism.

Talking on the PLZ Football Show (04:00, 23 August), Rough said: “It’s a team game and it’s not all about one player, there are another 15 players that you need to hold in the same esteem.

“He’s been mooted to get a move every year and this might be the time where the manager tells him to get his agent to find something new.

“Rangers have more important things to worry about than Alfredo Morelos with all the games that are coming up.”

Sell him

Rangers should now consider cashing in on Morelos as his contract enters its final year.

Antonio Colak has proven himself to be the main man up front for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men with the Colombian featuring mainly from the substitutes bench so far this season.

Morelos’ red card on Saturday was potentially a little bit harsh, but ultimately he has given the referee a decision to make by being careless and using his arms far too much.

Gers fans are completely aware of his hot-headed nature and after returning from his long injury lay-off, it is clear his temperament is still very much the same.

The 25-year-old has had some great moments at Ibrox over the years and is clearly an extremely talented footballer, however, his lack of form and discipline could mean his days in Scotland are numbered.

With only a matter of days left in the transfer window, any move away will have to materialise quickly for Morelos.

It does make sense for the club hierarchy to let the volatile striker leave the club this summer.

In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
