Tam McManus savages Connor Goldson as Rangers drop points against Hibs
Tam McManus slammed Rangers defender Connor Goldson for turning his back as Hibs managed to score an equaliser.
Gers shared the points in the SPFL after they had to settle for a 2-2 draw on Saturday – having ended the game with nine men.
Josh Campbell had a go from long range and footage has now emerged that showed Goldson ducking out of the way to allow the ball to travel through on goal.
Reacting to the footage, McManus wrote on Twitter, “Centre half turning his back on a shot. My old gaffer Alex McLeish would absolutely go through a defender if they ever done that & it resulted in a goal or a deflected goal. Maybe that art of defending has gone.”
Disappointing
While Goldson did not otherwise have a bad game, this really isn’t a good look for a defender, especially when the team concedes a late equaliser.
After being down to nine men, the players must give 200 per cent to the cause and defend like their lives matter on the result of the game.
It seemed like that’s what they were doing after Alfredo Morelos’ sending off, but unfortunately, they conceded in this fashion.
Goldson could’ve tried to get any part of his body on the ball as he knew that the shot was destined for goal, if not the back of the net.
One cannot fault Jon McLaughlin for that as it was a sweetly struck strike with a bit of bend on it.
What made it worse was that he did not even have a clear view of it until it was very late and Goldson’s got to take some responsibility there.
In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
