Journalist shares if Rangers make multi-million bid to sign Steaua Bucharest midfielder Darius Olaru
Rangers have reportedly not made an official bid to sign Steaua Bucharest midfielder Darius Olaru this summer.
According to former BBC journalist Fraser Fletcher, despite the £5million links to the Romania international, no official bid has gone in yet.
Romanian media outlet Pro Sport claimed that Gers were interested in signing the 24-year-old a few weeks ago and are not yet giving up the pursuit just yet.
Via Twitter, Fletcher wrote, “Despite some reports, Rangers have not made an offer for FCSB player Darius Olaru.”
There’s still hope
Speaking to the same Romanian publication, owner Gigi Becali had some very interesting things to say.
While he categorically ruled out the sale of the midfielder initially, he then backtracked and said that discussions will begin again on Friday (August 19) and that’s when things can change.
He said, “Who wants to give this money? Rangers? Olaru is not for sale now.
“From Friday we resume the discussions, let’s see how we will be then. But for now, no one is leaving, no one is coming.”
This clearly means that failure to qualify for the Conference League could see Olaru look for a way out or for the club to raise money due to the lack of broadcasting revenue.
Either way, Rangers must not yet abandon their pursuit of the player as they could do with another midfielder.
Olaru is not just an attacking midfielder, he can also sit deep and dictate the play and at 24, he does represent a viable option for the future.
It will be interesting to see if Gers submit an official bid for him in the coming days.
In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
