PSV ‘firmly’ in control of tie v Rangers – Simon Ferry

Si Ferry believes that the Rangers will now be the underdogs when they will face PSV Eindhoven in the return leg of the UEFA Champions League qualification playoffs.

The Gers managed to draw the first leg with a score of 2-2 whereas the next fixture will be played on next Tuesday.

Talking about the fixture while talking to Grosvenor Sport as quoted by Glasgowtimes, the 34-year-old was of the opinion that the tie is now “firmly” in control of the Dutch club.

“Rangers playing at Ibrox in the first leg was important,” he said. “But drawing 2-2 has put them at a disadvantage going into the second leg.

“The tie is firmly in PSV’s favour now. If you’d have offered them [PSV] a 2-2 draw before the game, they’d have taken it because now they’ll go into the home leg favourites and I expect them to win.

“This scenario has happened to Rangers so many times in Europe and for me, this is where Giovanni Van Bronckhorst has been really good.

“In certainties where they’re underdogs, he’ll change tactics and personnel which has worked. I make PSV strong favourites but it wouldn’t surprise me if Rangers went over to Holland and won.”

Massive week

Rangers have been having a rollercoaster of a season so far where they have managed to come from a goal down to secure a win on an opening day, suffered a shocking defeat in the Champions League qualification, then turned it around and secure a memorable win at the Ibrox and then failing to secure a win against PSV.

Those performances must be a cause of concern for manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst who would be hoping that his players will be able to keep the consistency going because they cannot afford to let this opportunity go of playing in Europe’s elite competition.

Therefore, the next Tuesday’s fixture will not only going to be a test for the players but also for the Dutch manager as a positive result would ensure that the club will keep on competing with the likes of Celtic, both on and off the field, or a poor result could disrupt the overall balance.
