Tam McManus shares thoughts on Rangers summer arrival Antonio Colak

Tam McManus believes that Rangers striker Antonio Colak’s all-around game isn’t great, despite the Croatian netting again in the Gers 4-0 win over St Johnstone.

The 28-year-old striker has three goals to his name so far this season and is the top scorer in all competitions for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

Despite a good start on the goalscoring front for Colak, McManus believes that his technical ability isn’t particularly good as he is named in the side to take on PSV this evening.

Rangers

Talking on the PLZ Football show (15 August, 6:23), he said: “When you’re at Celtic or Rangers and wearing the number nine shirt you need to get 15 to 20 goals per season.

“If he keeps scoring goals then he is going to keep Alfredo Morelos out of the team.

“I don’t think his all-around game is particularly great but he’s doing the most important thing and the hardest thing in football and that’s scoring goals.”

Goals goals goals

Colak was signed for one purpose and that was to find the back of the net for Rangers.

The Croatian has already scored an important goal in their 3-0 win over Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and has shown that he can find the net regularly at the start of his Ibrox career.

Ultimately, Rangers fans will be delighted that the striker is finding the net at the start of his time in Scotland and will be hoping for other aspects of his game to improve as he continues to develop relationships with his new teammates.

Colak will ultimately be judged on how he performs on big European occasions for Rangers as well as domestic fixtures against Celtic.

Rangers Giovanni van Bronckhorst

There is certainly room for improvement for the striker, but it has been a promising start for the 28-year-old.

If he was struggling to get into goalscoring positions then it would be a worry for van Bronckhorst.

However, he clearly has a goalscoring instinct which could be vital in any success the Gers have this season.

In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
