Derek McInnes raves about Alfredo Morelos, shares view on Rangers UCL clash v PSV Eindhoven

Derek McInnes has showered praise on Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos ahead of the Gers’ crucial Champions League qualifier against PSV Eindhoven.

The former Gers hero wrote for the Scottish Daily Mail on 14 August that summer signing Antonio Colak is quite similar to Morelos, but the Colombian has more edge to his game.

McInnes also added that the Bears need two big performances against PSV, and has warned that they won’t get away against the Dutch giants like they did against Union Saint-Gilloise.

“Morelos being back and another week on can help. Maybe even more so in the away game,” wrote McInnes for the Scottish Daily Mail.

“Antonio Colak has similarities but Morelos just has more to his game. If he can improve his fitness and be ready to start, then having him to lead the line over in Eindhoven will be important.

“A lot of Rangers’ bigger Ibrox performances last season came in the second leg, so this is a reversal.

“I think they will need two big performances. They won’t get away with one as they did against Union, when they put the tie at risk by being so off their own levels in Belgium.”

Strategy

McInnes is absolutely spot on here. Rangers cannot afford to have a bad night like they had in Belgium.

The Bears will have to be on top of their game over the two legs, otherwise, PSV can hurt them badly. They are a strong side and are capable of beating them.

Having said that, Rangers should be in full confidence ahead of the game. They have secured three wins in a row in the Scottish Premiership, and they must believe they can win this tie.

Rangers

The first leg is at Ibrox makes it tricky. We have seen last season that Rangers have managed to come from behind to win at Ibrox (also in the previous round), but here they’ve to take a big lead ahead of the second leg.

PSV, if they trail, will try to attack in numbers and they will leave space for the Gers to counter-attack. The Bears need to keep their concentration intact throughout the game and wait for the right opportunity to hit them back.

With Morelos back in the side, Van Bronckhorst can feel confident that the Colombian can win him matches, away from home.

In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
