National newspaper Rangers player ratings v Union Saint-Gilloise: Malik Tillman influential

Rangers once again produced a brilliant result in European games as they won 3-2 against Union Saint-Gilloise on Tuesday night (9 August) to book a place in the Champions League qualifier.

The Daily Record on their online edition (9 August) has delivered the player ratings for Rangers, and the Gers fans will largely agree with that.

The newspaper hailed Malik Tillman as “influential”, and he got 7/10. Tom Lawrence got the highest rating with 8/10, while James Sands is one of the three players who got 6/10.

Deserved

It wasn’t a terrific performance from the Gers, which is obvious. The season has only started and it will take time for the players to hit the top gear.

At the same time, victory was needed. Rangers lost 2-0 in the first leg and they needed to come up with a strong result at Ibrox.

Lawrence has made a low-key start at Ibrox, but he was brilliant on the night. He dominated the midfield and added energy and tenacity in the middle.

Tillman once again impressed and scored an important goal. Likewise, Antonio Colak, Borna Barisic and James Tavernier all have done well during the match.

Ryan Kent returned from injury and he was picked in the starting line-up. He faded towards the end of the first half but showed his quality after the break.

Sands looked nervous at the back. It looked like he would pick up a red card, but the referee changed his decision.

Rangers will now face PSV Eindhoven in their next Champions League qualifying game.

In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
