Jack Simpson Ibrox exit could open the door for more Rangers arrivals
Rangers have confirmed the exit of defender Jack Simpson to Cardiff City and that could well open the door for further arrivals after what has previously been said by Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Rangers Review journalist Joshua Barrie said (via Twitter, 23 July) that van Bronckhorst felt the Gers summer business was done unless there were further departures from Ibrox.
Since then Simpson has followed Glenn Middleton out of the club, meaning room has certainly been made for further additions over the coming weeks.
With the substantial fee the club received for Calvin Bassey, it is a surprise that the Ibrox hierarchy are not more inclined to back the Rangers boss in the latter stages of the window.
Joe Aribo and Bassey were hugely important to the team’s success last season and whether the incomings at Rangers this summer will adequately replace the pair is certainly still up in the air.
Simpson leaving the club was always in the pipeline after his miserable spell in Scotland after his move from Bournemouth in January 2021.
Rangers have certainly had plenty of success stories recruiting from the Championship and the EFL, with Aribo and Kemar Roofe being good examples.

However, it was clear that the Gers potentially went too early on the English defender after he came through the ranks at the now Premier League club.
Fans would certainly welcome one or two marquee additions as the window nears its conclusion.
Celtic’s presence in the Champions League will bring financial rewards and it’s imperative that Rangers invest smartly into their squad to match their fierce rivals on a domestic front this season.
In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
