Alan Rough hopes Rangers beat Union Saint-Gilloise in their Champions League qualifier second leg

Former Celtic goalkeeper Alan Rough wants Rangers to win in their Champions League qualifying second leg against Union Saint-Gilloise tonight.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men are looking to turn over a 2-0 deficit to the Jupiler League side at Ibrox on Tuesday evening (9 August).

Rough believes a win for Rangers will be huge for Scottish football in terms of the money that comes back into the domestic game.

Talking on PLZ Football Show, Rough said (17:15, 8 August): “It’s massive and the players will be aware of how massive it is.

“It’s big for Scottish football as well as we want to see our clubs progressing in Europe.

“It brings more money into the game so I really hope they do get through.”

Huge night ahead

A huge night is certainly in store for Rangers as van Bronckhorst looks to repeat another magical European night at Ibrox.

There should be plenty of confidence amongst Gers fans that they will be able to overturn the two-goal deficit this evening, after showing in their Europa League final run that they were more than capable of doing so.

It was clear in Belgium that Rangers were far from coherent in their performance, with a number of new faces settling into their new surroundings at Ibrox.

The Gers will be hoping for new partnerships and relationships to have developed since their poor showing in the first leg.

Rangers

If the players can use the crowd to their advantage, then there is no reason why they can’t put the Belgium side to the sword this evening.

Ryan Kent being fit is huge, with his attacking threat and direct running clearly missed in the first leg.

Antonio Colak was an anonymous figure in Belgium, potentially due to a lack of service to the front man.

Kent coming back into the fray will hopefully give the striker more chances to make an impact.
