Ridvan Yilmaz in line for Rangers debut while Ryan Kent suffers injury blow

Ridvan Yilmaz is in line for his Rangers debut as he has been named in the squad to take on Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Tuesday night.

Heart and Hand, the club’s official partners shared that the Turkish defender along with new signing from Liverpool Ben Davies are on the plane to Belgium.

Ryan Kent is not included as he’s sustained an injury but it is not understood to be too serious.

Via Twitter, Heart and Hand wrote, “Ryan Kent didn’t travel to Belgium. Club say it’s not a serious injury but tomorrow comes too soon for him. Yilmaz and Davies in squad.”

Debut for Yilmaz?

Yilmaz joined up with the team on Sunday and is likely to have had a couple of good training sessions already.

He’s not featured in pre-season but is fresh and ready to go and we’re keen on seeing how Giovanni van Bronckhorst plans on integrating him into the side.

Borna Barisic fared decently in the season opener but the plans are to phase him out and make Yilmaz the first-team regular.

While that is wishful thinking, it certainly will take time and we expect Barisic to retain his spot in the eleven for this game.

Yilmaz is expected to come on at some time in the second half and van Bronckhorst can get a fair assessment of what he brings to the table for them.

He can then make a decision whether or not he’s ready to be handed a start in the SPFL over the weekend.

In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
