GvB confirms Matondo, Yilmaz availability for Rangers in UCL qualifier
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that the newly-signed duo of Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz will be part of the Rangers squad that faces Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League qualifiers.
The Gers will face the Belgian club in the first leg of the tie on Tuesday evening whereas the return leg will be played on August 9.
The Dutch manager was quoted in a report by Daily Record where he stated that both players will travel to Belgium.
“Matondo trained with the team as did Rıdvan yesterday,” he said. “Both can travel with us this afternoon.”
Rangers started their 2022-23 campaign with a thrilling 2-1 win against Livingstone on Saturday where the side came from a goal down to score two inside five minutes to secure all three points.
The presence of Matondo and Yilmaz is another welcome news for the Gers as they prepare for their all-important Champions League qualifier.
For a team that literally played a makeshift team for the majority of the second half of last season, having an injury-thin squad was the last thing they would have hoped for.
But the fans can take a sigh of relief after hearing the confirmation coming from Van Bronckhorst regarding the availability of the duo.
The Wales international, who is famous for his blistering pace, joined Rangers from German club FC Schalke 04 in a deal worth £2.7 million.
On the other hand, Yilmaz joined the club from Turkish club Besiktas in an initial deal of £3.4million plus add-ons [The Athletic].
