Connor Goldson raves about Rangers summer signing John Souttar

John Souttar struggled in the opening game for Rangers as the Bears won 2-1 against Livingston.

It was a nightmare debut for him, and he received a lot of criticism. Conor Goldson, however, suggests that Souttar will become an “unbelievable” signing for the club.

The Bears defender says that he has been left impressed with the former Hearts defender who brings a lot of “quality” in training.

“I’ve been really impressed with Souttar. You see his quality every day in training,” said Goldson, as quoted by The Glasgow Times.

“I was really disappointed on Saturday seeing a lot of criticism after one game, I’ve been there myself I have no doubts at all he will be an unbelievable signing for this football club.

“John is an international player and we know how good a player we have signed.

“We know the pressure that comes at Rangers but people can’t judge a player after one game at Livingston which is not the easiest place to go.”

Spot on

Goldson knows the pressure of playing for Rangers and he has faced criticisms from the fans and pundits whenever he has underperformed.

Souttar is a fantastic talent who joined in the summer from Hearts on a free transfer, although the deal was sealed back in the January transfer window.

The first game was always going to be nervy, and Souttar felt the heat against Livingston, especially as the Bears struggled to find their rhythm.

However, some of the reactions made by pundits are over the top, and they may have to eat their words this season, as Souttar will be looking to silence his critics.

Having said that, what really surprised everyone is how Souttar struggled to cope with Van Bronckhorst’s high-line defence. He will get better though with more games under his belt.

It will be interesting to see if Van Bronckhorst decides to use him in the crucial Champions League game in midweek. James Sands did impress in the second half, and he could get the nod.
