Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to make bold call on Rangers forward Fashion Sakala

Rangers forward Fashion Sakala has admitted that he is unsure what the future holds for him.

Sakala was an unused substitute as the Gers won 2-1 against Livingston in the opening Scottish Premiership game of the 2022-23 season.

The Zambian international has said [Daily Record, 31 July] that he wants to hold talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst to clarify his Ibrox future but has clearly suggested that he is not looking to move out on loan.

Rangers have bolstered their squad this summer, with Van Bronckhorst signing as many as seven new players.

He has added depth in the forward areas, and Sakala is likely to face strong competition for his place.

This is an enviable squad, and if you add Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe into the mix, one would find it hard to see where Sakala would fit in.

The 25-year-old joined the Gers last season and made a decent impact. He scored 12 goals in all competitions for the club and scored some brilliant goals, including the one against Celtic.

It would be really harsh to offload him, but Van Bronckhorst needs to make a big call here. Sakala has got pace, and his direct style of play is perfect against lower teams.

On the other hand, Sakala struggled in the Europa League last season. Having said that, Rangers will be aiming to win all the domestic competitions, and Van Bronckhorst will need to rotate his squad to keep his players fresh.

The Dutchman wants him to stay, but if Morelos and Roofe stay put, he may have to take a bold decision.
