Fashion Sakala wants meeting with Van Bronckhorst over Rangers future talks

Fashion Sakala has admitted that he doesn’t want to leave Rangers on loan this summer.

The Zambian international, however, wants to hold talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst over his Ibrox future. The Dutchman has assured his agent already that the forward is in his first-team plans.

According to The Daily Record, the 25-year-old has been linked with temporary switches to Auxerre, Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad this summer.

“There is no need for me to go on loan because my first season was not bad. I scored 12 goals in all competitions and that was my adaptation season. Now I have to prepare myself to do better this season,” said Sakala, as quoted by The Daily Record.

“If I hadn’t got the chance last season or if I had not scored a single goal then I would have said: ‘Okay, I need to make a move, I need to go’. Because for me, I can be here at this big club, but if I am not playing then it does not mean anything.

“Last season was okay. It could have been better, but I was mostly on the bench and coming all the time is difficult. I think players understand that to do so is not easy. When you do that, the game is on another level and rhythm is not the same.”

“I haven’t had a meeting with him (van Bronckhorst). But I think they had a meeting with my manager and he said he wants me, he wants me to be part of the club.

“I am expecting a meeting any time soon and I hope to hear his views. This is something I am looking forward to because we are starting a competition and I want to know where I am standing because I don’t know at the moment.”

Keep him

Sakala only arrived at the Ibrox club last summer, and he enjoyed a decent 2021-22 campaign.

Last season, he scored 12 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions, although he was often used from the bench.

Rangers have added depth to their squad this summer, and Sakala will face strong competition for his place.

The Dutchman has added Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence, Malik Tillman and Antonio Colak in the forward areas, while Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe still remain at the club.

Sakala could drop further down the pecking order at the club, but it is upto him to prove his worth to his manager.

There are a lot of games to be played, and Sakala will get his opportunity. He needs to be patient, and improve on last season’s performance.

A loan move isn’t ideal for him at the moment. He brings pace and energy to the side, and could play a big role for the club this season.
