Rangers striker Kemar Roofe set to miss out v Livingston

Rangers will start the brand new Scottish Premier League season on Saturday (30 July) when they’ll face Livingston away from Ibrox.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has stated the importance of making a strong start to the season, and he feels his squad is well equipped to challenge for all competitions.

Ahead of the match, the Gers boss has shared the fitness update where he confirmed that Kemar Roofe won’t be playing on Saturday. He adds that Roofe is likely to return to action shortly.

“Kemar [Roofe] is still out, he will not be in the squad tomorrow. So far, I think Kemar will be quicker, he is on the pitch so hopefully, he will join the sessions in the coming weeks,” said Van Bronckhorst, as quoted by Rangers Review.

Roofe has been reportedly linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer.

The Daily Record reported on July 27 (page 52) that Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday are the two clubs that have shown interest in signing him.

However, the Bears have yet to receive a formal offer for the former Leeds United forward.

Yorkshire Live journalist Dom Howson suggested on 27 July that a move to Hillsborough is unlikely, with his wages now being a potential stumbling block.

Van Bronckhorst has added depth and quality in the forward region, and Roofe has a strong challenge on his hand to cement a regular starting spot in the side.

He was already behind Alfredo Morelos in the pecking order at the club, and he is further likely to drop behind following the arrival of Antonio Colak.

Roofe played a key role last season, especially in the absence of Morelos. Ideally, Van Bronckhorst would love to keep him at the club, but anything can happen.
