Celtic hero Peter Grant impressed with Rangers squad, makes title prediction

Former Celtic hero Peter Grant has been left hugely impressed with the Rangers squad this summer.

However, he suggests that “it’s proven” Celtic have a better squad, and that they will win the SPFL title once again.

Grant feels that the Bears have added “quality” players to their ranks, but Celtic have a rounded squad.

“I’m going to surprise you and say Celtic. I think it’s proven that they have the best squad, I would say, at this moment in time,” said Grant on The Go Radio Football Show, as relayed by The Daily Record (28 July).

“I think they have 20-22 players you would call first team players and I don’t think Rangers have that. I think they have signed quality, I have been very impressed with the signings Rangers have done, but I just think Celtic have a more rounded squad.”

Balanced

Giovanni van Bronckhorst did extremely well to take Rangers to the final of the Europa League last season, and he also managed to win his first piece of silverware at the Ibrox club.

However, it’s the league title that matters most. And the Bears will be looking to snatch the title away from Celtic this time around, after last season’s disappointment.

The fact that Rangers lost their grip in the race in the second half of the campaign is a familiar story, and the club must avoid doing the same again.

The Dutchman has added depth and quality in almost every area, while he managed to keep hold of important players like Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Ryan Jack.

Losing players like Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey is a big blow, but Van Bronckhorst will be hoping that the new signings will step up quickly.

With veterans like Alan McGregor and Steven Davis still around, and Connor Goldson staying put, Rangers are better equipped to fight for the title in the upcoming season.

In other Rangers news, Dundee United manager Jack Ross has addressed transfer rumours linking this Gers youngster with a move to Tannadice.
