Keith Jackson: Alfredo Morelos wanting to sign Rangers contract extension is 'bombshell' news

Keith Jackson has insisted that Alfredo Morelos wanting to sign a contract extension at Rangers is “bombshell” news after the major update.

Writing in the latest Daily Record print edition [26 July, back page], Jackson mooted that it would be a long-term deal as the Colombian enters the final year of his stay in Glasgow as things stand.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst shared the news that positive discussions were underway during the open training session at Ibrox on Monday afternoon [25 July].

Writing in his latest snippet for the Daily Record, Jackson was clearly blown away by the news that the Bufalo could be sticking around at Ibrox.

“Gio van Bronckhorst has revealed star striker Alfredo Morelos wants to sign a new long-term deal with Rangers,” he wrote.

“The Ibrox boss dropped the bombshell news yesterday after the Colombian joining team-mates for an open training session in front of fans at the club’s stadium.”

Why wouldn’t Alf want to stick around?

He is adored by the fans, has played the best football of his career and the club surely matches his ambitions of competing in Europe each year as well as bringing home silverware.

Working with Roy Makaay each day is a massive incentive too given how much of a legend the Dutchman was from his spells at Bayern Munich.

Morelos will be locked in talks, and so will Ryan Kent.

Those are the last two pieces of the puzzle as things stand at Ibrox, and securing them both this summer to longer-term contracts would keep this squad together for years without a doubt.

James Tavernier is close to a new deal too, joining Connor Goldson who has already put pen-to-paper on his extension, with Ross Wilson clearly working his magic.

This is certainly one to watch in the coming weeks with our main transfer business done, announcing new deals for Kent and Morelos would make this the perfect window, and far from a bombshell.

In other Rangers news, Ross Wilson now has names lined up just in case Alfredo Morelos seals his exit this summer
