Rangers and Celtic target Doron Leidner set to join Olympiacos
Rangers and Celtic are reportedly set to miss out on the services of Hapoel Tel Aviv left-back Doron Leidner with him joining another club.
According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, the Israel international is set to join Olympiacos while he will continue to remain on the radar of Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
Both the Glasgow clubs had him as a target earlier this summer but will not be signing him as he’s set to move to Greece for a £1.7million fee.
Via Twitter, Thomas wrote, “HapoelTelAviv LB Doron Leidner is set to move to #Olympiacos. A #Rangers and #Celtic target earlier in the summer and on the lists at #Bologna and #Sassuolo too, but he is moving to Greece in an initial £1.7m (€2m) deal. Already on #NottinghamForest radar for the future.”
Rangers have just signed Ridvan Yilmaz who is set to be at the club for the better part of the next decade, perhaps even longer.
At the age of 21, he’s not just one for the present but also one who’s going to be the first choice left-back for a number of years.
Even if Leidner was signed, he would only be a backup and it’s not worth wasting that kind of money on a second or third choice.
Borna Barisic is also still there at the club so there is little need to invest in more left-backs.
They must now look at a central midfielder and maybe another centre-back before the window closes, but it remains to be seen if there will be any more incomings.
