Ridvan Yilmaz ready to jet into Glasgow to complete Rangers transfer as multi-million bid submitted

Besiktas left-back Ridvan Yilmaz is ready to fly to Scotland to complete a move to Rangers once his club accepts a bid for him, according to CNN Turk.

The Turkish broadcaster reported via their website on Friday morning (22 July that) once Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Çebi gives the deal the green light, the 21-year-old Turkey international will be on his way to Glasgow.

It is understood that Yilmaz’s move to Frankfurt has broken down and that led to a “surprise offer” from Rangers, which the left-back has warmed to.

CNN Turk adds that the Gers’ bid for Yilmaz is worth £5.1million and Cebi has the “final decision” on whether to accept it.

Matter of time?

It looks as though Besiktas are just playing a waiting game here.

They might just be sitting on that offer for a bit to see if any better ones are made as Yilmaz is clearly attracting attention from elsewhere in Europe.

It could also be a ploy by the Turkish club to get the Gers to make a better offer for the left-back, who’s been capped six times for the Turkey national team.

Rangers need themselves a new left-back after Calvin Bassey was sold to Ajax.

Borna Barisic has looked good in pre-season but he’s the only out-and-out left-back among Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s senior options so we need to get another one in.

Yilmaz will not only provide depth in that area but he should also give Barisic a lot of competition.

And that seems to be what Barisic needs because last season, he was very poor until van Bronckhorst dropped him and replaced him with Bassey.

Once the Croatian worked his way back into the side, his performances were a lot better so this move is beneficial in so many ways.

In other Rangers news, Alfredo Morelos has reacted to this mega-money transfer announcement involving the Gers.
