Rangers to complete deal for Besiktas left-back Ridvan Yilmaz

Rangers are set to complete a deal for Besiktas left-back Ridvan Yilmaz after tabling a £5.6million bid for the Turkey international according to Sport Yazari journalist Gokhan Dinc.

It had been reported by Fanatik journalist Gokmen Ozcan speaking exclusively to Ibrox News that the Gers offer has been received positively due to the £5.6million payment being made in a year.

It has since been reported by Sport Yazari journalist Dinc on Thursday 21 July (via Twitter) that a deal is very close.

Dinc wrote: “Rıdvan Yılmaz looks like he will wear a Rangers jersey.

“The deal is about to be completed by a large margin… Everything is going well.”

Excellent work

This is great work by the Gers to get a replacement for Calvin Bassey lined up quickly.

Yilmaz seems a very similar player to the Nigerian international with the left-back still young and also a full international.

The 21-year-old is very much a long-term signing for Rangers, as well as being a player who can come in and make an immediate impact at Ibrox.

It is also a smart piece of business by the club to identify a player who will be picked up for a reasonable fee due to his current contract situation.

Yilmaz is out of contract in the summer of 2023 which will most likely mean Besiktas will cash in on him this summer to avoid losing him for nothing next year.

From a Rangers perspective, it is very much time for the club hierarchy to continue to back Giovanni van Bronckhorst and give him as much of the Bassey fee as possible to help take the Gers to the next level.

It is crucial that the Scottish giants kick on from their sensational Europa League run and make themselves a real threat to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership once again.

In other Rangers news, the club are under no pressure to sell Glen Kamara this summer.
