Rangers defender Borna Barisic future now uncertain as Ridvan Yilmaz deal nears

Rangers defender Borna Barisic’s future has been left uncertain with the imminent arrival of Ridvan Yilmaz, according to Jordan Campbell.

The Gers should soon be confirming the signing of the Turkish full-back, as The Athletic report that the club are closing in on a deal for the 21-year-old defender.

However, this arrival may spell uncertainty for the future of the Croatian defender, with the club reportedly open to offers for Barisic if their valuation is met.

Writing on Twitter Campbell said of the imminent arrival: “Less certain is what it means for Barisic.

“Two clubs from England and Italy have been keen but not close to Rangers’ asking price.”

Exit on the cards?

Yilmaz’s arrival could spell the end of Barisic’s four-year stay at Ibrox, with Yilmaz reportedly fitting Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s direct style.

The Croatian defender joined the club in 2018 from NK Osijek and has made 155 appearances for the club since making the move to Scotland.

During that time, he has scored seven goals and provided an impressive 35 assists, averaging 8.75 assists a season.

The former Dinamo Zagreb defender has also made 26 appearances for his country, scoring one goal for the Croatian national team since making his debut in 2017.

He could remain at the club and battle it out with Yilmaz, eight years his junior, for a starting spot in van Bronckhorst’s defence.

However, it is believed that if the right offer comes in for Barisic, the defender, who has two years left on his contract, will be allowed to leave Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Ridvan Yilmaz believes he can become a success at Ibrox.
