Rangers: Ben Davies arrival could mean Ibrox loan exit for Jack Simpson
Rangers signing Liverpool defender Ben Davies will surely mean the end of Jack Simpson’s miserable Ibrox career.
The former Bournemouth man signed for the Gers in January 2021 and has featured a handful of times for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.
Simpson made seven appearances across the whole of the 2021/22 season in what has proven a fairly poor transfer for all involved.
Davies joining the Gers will push Simpson even further down the Ibrox pecking order and now a move away looks the most likely scenario for the defender.
Even with Calvin Bassey potentially leaving the club, opportunities for the 25-year-old will still likely come at a premium in the 2022/23 season.
Simpson is at an age where he needs to kickstart his career quickly.
He must leave the Scottish giants if he wants any hope of being a success elsewhere in the future.
A move away makes sense for the club hierarchy with the Gers potentially needing to offload players to make space for new arrivals at Ibrox.
Not every transfer will prove successful and this is very much a case of that for Simpson and Rangers.
Davies will be one Van Bronckhorst’s first-choice candidates in defence after being signed for an initial £3million from Liverpool.
Rangers will be praying for the 26-year-old to be a success story at Ibrox and not replicate Simpson’s move north of the border.
The Gers have done superbly to act fast in replacing the influential Bassey with his move to Ajax set to be announced imminently.
In other Rangers news, the club are under no pressure to sell Glen Kamara this summer.
