Rangers holding back Ben Davies announcement - could be triggered this afternoon

Rangers are holding back the official announcement of Liverpool defender Ben Davies, according to the Rangers Review.

The online source has reported that the Bears are waiting for Calvin Bassey to be unveiled at Ajax, something that could happen as early as this afternoon [19 July].

That should trigger Rangers to announce Davies as their player, something that could happen within hours and possibly before the friendly against West Ham United at Ibrox.

Writing in his latest snippet for the Rangers Review, Jonny McFarlane shared the latest coming from Ibrox with everything seemingly confirmed behind-the-scnees.

“Calvin Bassey is expected to be unveiled at Ajax as early as this afternoon, triggering Rangers to reveal Ben Davies as their latest signing,” he wrote.

“The Ibrox club are understood be holding back their official announcement of the Liverpool defender until Ajax move first.”

Double Announcement.

Bassey is set to bring in a huge windfall for the club, but it is no doubt still a sad day.

Ross Wilson will take much credit for his transfer policy clearly working, with the profit on this deal now over £20million for the Nigerian international.

Add to that the sales of Nathan Patterson and Joe Aribo, and it could take the sale windfall above £40million which is world-class business.

Especially when you replace those options quickly, and that is what we have done.

Davies must have formalised and signed everything with this move ready to be unveiled, with just the Bassey announcement standing between it being made public now.

Hopefully, this can be sorted as soon as possible and we can move forward with the Liverpool man in our back four for the foreseeable future, with him simply needing a home.

Here We Go – this one is set to be given the green light.
