Rangers star Calvin Bassey to sign contract to become Ajax player on Monday - Fabrizio Romano

Rangers defender Calvin Bassey will sign his contract to become an Ajax player on Monday (18 July), according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Nigerian international will make the move to Holland this week and smash the sale record at Ibrox for the second time in as many years.

Bassey will put pen-to-paper on a deal until 2026, with Liverpool man Ben Davies already on his way to Ibrox as his replacement for the future.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Romano shared the major update that will bring this whole saga to an end with the defender moving on.

“Calvin Bassey, new Ajax player – he’s set to sign the contract today valid until June 2026 with an option for further season,” he wrote.

“It’s done deal since Saturday, to be unveiled soon.”

This one has been dragging on for days now, but it looks as though it will finally be completed and either today or tomorrow by the clubs.

Bassey arrived for only £230,000 from Leicester and in one season has transformed his game at Ibrox and is now being sold for a complete fee of nearly £30million.

That is insane business from Rangers and Ross Wilson.

We can bemoan that another one of our talents is moving on, but this is how football and the business of running a club works, and in the past two years, we have done that perfectly.

Nathan Patterson and Bassey started last season as nothing more than depth players, and they are set to bring in around £40million for the club to use and bank.

We don’t need to tell anyone how phenomenal that is, with Borna Barisic and James Tavernier set to start the regular season as usual under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

It allows for breathing room in the Champions League qualification as well, with qualification worth around that figure too, of course though, we still want that status.

This one is close, and what a deal it is.
