Rangers set to launch bid for Liverpool defender Ben Davies who nearly joined Celtic last summer

Rangers will reportedly launch a bid for Liverpool left-back cum centre-back Ben Davies who nearly moved to Celtic last summer.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Ibrox giants are wasting no time in looking to replace Calvin Bassey who is set to join Ajax.

To sign the 26-year-old defender at Liverpool, Gers will have to fend off interest from English Championship side Burnley who are also attributed with an interest in the Englishman.

Worth signing?

Davies’ days at Anfield appear to be numbered with the growing talent pool there to fill in for an already world-class squad.

He joined Liverpool midway through 2020-21 when they were in the midst of an injury crisis, but failed to make a single senior appearance for them.

However, he suffered injuries of his own which kept him out of action and the club then decided to loan him out to Sheffield United after their relegation from the Premier League.

He went on to be a regular there and had a decent season but failed to get promoted with the Blades who have not been linked with wanting him back for another year.

If he has the choice between the Championship and Rangers it’s clear that he’s going to pick the latter as he’ll not only get to challenge for trophies but also play in Europe, potentially the Champions League.

We’re unsure if Davies has what it takes to become a first-team regular but as a squad player, he should be a welcome addition at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
