Rangers ready to move for Calvin Bassey replacement as bidding war set

Rangers are ready to move for a replacement for Calvin Bassey already, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper has reported in their print edition [16 July, pg. 57] that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is prepared to lose the Nigerian international, who has become a superstar.

The Bears are said to be braced for a bidding war between Brighton and Ajax, with Ibrox chiefs getting ready already for what is to come in the next few days.

Writing in his column for the Daily Record, Michael Gannon shared the expected response from those at Ibrox should the blockbuster exit go through.

“Club chiefs get braced for a bidding war for Calvin Bassey – with Brighton and Ajax preparing to fight i tout for the £25million-rated Nigeria star,” he wrote.

“Van Bronckhorst is ready to move if he does lose the former Leicester kid.”

With Van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson at the helm, there is no surprise that they are ready to make their moves as quickly as possible with twists possible.

Bassey is said to have jetted down to London late on Friday night [Rangers News], with talks set to go into overdrive with an exit now the likely outcome.

One thing for certain is that the Bears will rake in another club record fee, and maybe even smash the Scottish record for a player sale with clubs forming a queue now.

It looks like Borna Barisic won’t be trusted for that main spot with only youth options behind him, and a first-team option will be brought in sooner rather than later should this exit happen.

Wilson is consistently scouting players around Europe, and he proved that with the signing of Mateusz Zukowski, so another left-field transfer could be on the cards now.

In other Rangers news, the Bears are set to have funds released for major new transfer activity with one exit now done
