Rangers in middle of transfer tug-of-war to sign Liverpool defender Ben Davies
Rangers find themselves in the middle of a “major transfer tug-of-war” for Liverpool defender Ben Davies, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist wrote on his Patreon on 17 July that the Burnley are interested in taking Davies on loan, while the Gers could get him on a “cheap” deal if Calvin Bassey leaves.
Blackburn and Stoke have already made pitches for Davies. The defender understands that the next move is vital for his career as Liverpool are ready to let him go.
Bassey seems increasingly likely to leave Rangers this summer to join Ajax.
In case, he leaves a move for Davies makes sense. Like Bassey, he can play as both centre-back and at left-back.
The 26-year-old spent nearly a major part of his career at Preston and earned a surprise move to Liverpool in the January window of 2021.
Liverpool were going through an injury crisis and Jurgen Klopp needed cover at the back. However, he failed to make a single appearance for the Reds.
The Reds decided to loan him out to Sheffield United after their relegation from the Premier League, and it didn’t turn out to be great for him.
He did manage 23 appearances for the club, but it wasn’t a hugely successful one.
It seems Davies has a lot of options from the Championship clubs, but a move to Glasgow should be enticing, as they can offer him Champions League football.
Bassey will be heavily missed by the club, but Davies won’t be a bad replacement either.
