Journalist shares Rangers stance on Barisic and new left-back signing as Calvin Bassey heads to Ajax
Rangers reportedly retain faith in left-back Borna Barisic as Calvin Bassey appears set to complete a big-money move to Ajax.
According to Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane, the club are in no rush to sign a replacement for the 21-year-old.
19-year-old Adam Devine is also considered an option as he’s already played that role for the team in the current pre-season campaign.
Via Twitter, McFarlane wrote, “Rangers are in no rush for a replacement for Calvin Bassey. There’s total faith in Borna Barisic at left-back, while Adam Devine can fill in as seen today. At centre-back, John Souttar has been brought in for a reason and will play a big part.”
Rangers cannot afford to rely on Barisic another year, especially as their first choice option.
He does have injury and inconsistency issues and his best days are clearly behind him.
Devine may be decent in pre-season but he’s still got levels to go before he can even think of making it on the matchday squad week in and week out.
With a club record sale, the worst thing the club can do is not actively looking to bring in someone similar who has extremely high potential.
Gers could play Champions League this upcoming season and that should be a selling point for any player looking to get that fame and platform of playing in Europe.
They have the money to do a deal if that’s what it takes and they must be knocking on doors and submitting enquiries for some of the best young left-backs among the top five leagues.
