Jim White issues transfer update as Calvin Bassey set to leave Rangers for Ajax

Jim White has claimed that Rangers have included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the deal to sell Calvin Bassey.

Eredivisie side Ajax are set to secure the services of the 22-year-old for a fee believed to be in the region of £23million including add-ons.

This comes after Fabrizio Romano reported that the two clubs were close to agreeing on a fee which was worth an initial £19.5million.

White wrote on Twitter, “So, Calvin Bassey from @RangersFC to Ajax all but done – 27m euros plus 10 per cent sell on package.”

Good deal

Bassey was always likely to part ways with the club either this summer or next and the important thing for Rangers was that they make the most of the interest in his services.

They’ve done precisely that and have now gotten a good enough fee upfront including add-ons and most importantly, a sell-on clause.

The Nigerian is only 22 and will get better with time so it makes sense for the Gers to ensure they’re making something from any future sale.

It’s also important that they now use this money to bring in a couple of quality players as there’s still work to be done in the market.

A left-back could possibly be a priority now as Borna Barisic has not been the same player since last season and would be playing second fiddle to Bassey had the Nigerian stayed on.

It remains to be seen how quickly Ross Wilson can move in the market to get these deals over the line.

In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
