Giovanni van Bronckhorst makes Calvin Bassey decision amid Rangers exit links
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has decided to leave Calvin Bassey out of the Rangers friendly squad against Blackpool.
According to BBC journalist Fraser Fletcher, the defender’s future is being discussed between clubs and there is no clarity as to whether or not he’s set to stay.
To clarify things over his potential exit, the club have opted to not include him in their pre-season squad for this particular game.
Via Twitter, Fletcher wrote, “Calvin Bassey left out of Rangers squad for friendly v Blackpool whilst his future is being discussed between clubs.”
Set to leave?
Things are serious when players have been left out of pre-season squads amid reports of major summer exits.
Bassey is a wanted man south of the border and Premier League clubs are keen on securing his services.
There is also interest from Ajax and the Dutch side would offer him Champions League football – something that Gers still have to qualify for.
At 22, Bassey knows that he’s got time on his side so he does not need to rush into a big move and can stay put at Ibrox for a year or two.
The club must not lower their valuation in case he does hand in a transfer request as every player has a price and must be sold for it.
While we would love to see him stay put at Ibrox, his sale would generate huge funds that can be invested in building a solid and potentially title-winning squad for the upcoming season.
