Ajax and Brighton table record bids for Rangers star Calvin Bassey

Ajax have tabled a £19million bid plus add-ons as they try to prize Calvin Bassey away from Rangers this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper has reported via their website that Premier League side Brighton have also tabled an offer, but that is only said to be worth £16million.

It is said that both offers have fallen short of the £25million valuation though, with the Bears keen to keep Bassey at Ibrox for longer after his breakthrough season.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be hoping and praying that Bassey decides to stick around at Ibrox, with the chance to really kick on the mani motivation.

Ajax and Brighton aren’t exactly huge step-ups in terms of competition and what he could succeed, with the Dutch side clearly bigger than the Seagulls.

There would be guaranteed Champions League football available, but he could be part of something special in Glasgow by getting through those qualifiers that are quickly approaching.

Hold out.

Rangers have said from the start that they want £25million to even consider this.

Now is the time to stand firm on that figure, with no one within their right minds able to complain if we bring in that sort of money for a player who has had one good season.

Of course, Bassey is on track to become one of the best talents that we have ever seen at Ibrox, but that money would obliterate anything we have previously seen.

On top of that, it could even go higher than that given that an auction is likely to start between Ajax and Brighton, not to mention other interested parties.

It’s a win-win scenario for the Bears.

Either we rake in £25million-plus or we keep Bassey in what could be another huge year, there is simply no downside to this deal happening or not.

With money now on the table, this is one to watch.

In other Rangers news, the Bears are set to have funds released for major new transfer activity with one exit now done
