Rangers defender Calvin Bassey 'top priority' for Ajax
Rangers defender Calvin Bassey has emerged as a “top priority” signing for Ajax, according to a report from De Telegraaf.
The Dutch media outlet has reported on their website on 15 July that Bassey is the top target to replace Lisandro Martinez.
The Eredivisie winner have followed the 22-year-old for a long time and club manager Alfred Schreuder has even had a telephone call with the Nigerian.

The Daily Record reported on 14 July that “Premier League clubs and the Dutch big guns” are leading the race for the young defender.
The Bears have already sold Joe Aribo for around £10m, but Bassey could be at the centre of a bidding war, with his base price being quoted at around £25m.
Rangers would be more than happy to entertain a bidding war, and it can drive the player’s asking price.
Bassey was signed from Leicester in 2020 by former boss Steven Gerrard for a cut price fee of less than £300,000.
He has grown into a top-quality defender and was outstanding last season under Giovanni van Bronkhorst.
The young defender was equally impressive at both centre-back and left-back last season, but his future could lie away from the club.
While Rangers would love to keep him at the club for a long time, the club would be powerless to prevent him if there’s a really really good offer on the table.
In other Rangers news, the Bears are set to have funds released for major new transfer activity with one exit now done.
