Jim White: Top clubs queuing for Calvin Bassey, Rangers not yet received £20m bid from Ajax
A number of top clubs are now queuing to sign Rangers star Calvin Bassey, according to Jim White.
The talkSPORT host has followed on from reports that Ajax and Brighton had tabled offers for the Nigerian international, that were turned away by those at Ibrox.
White insisted that he has heard that talk of a £20million bid from the Eredivisie side is being called premature as Giovanni van Bronckhorst faces a nervous window.
Writing on his personal Twitter account late on Thursday night [14 July], White addressed the transfer talk as it continued to hit overdrive.
“Hearing tonight a number of top clubs queuing up for Rangers defender Calvin Bassey,” he wrote.
“Talk of any £20m bid from Ajax is being called premature.”
This is really starting to gather pace now and that is not good.
We have batted away numerous reports for months now with passing interests from the likes of Aston Villa, but now it is starting to get really serious it seems.
Talks of bids from Ajax and Brighton prove that clubs are putting their foot on the gas to try and secure Bassey, and they both are set to have a big war chest available to do it.
Ross Wilson will be trying to secure the future of the left-back with a new contract as we speak, and if he can do that, it could be the deal of the summer.
It is very much a similar scenario to that of Connor Goldson, although his contract was coming to an end and Bassey has one year remaining.
Talk of a £20million bid is said to be premature, but that is ball park that clubs would need to hit in order to get us to discuss any exit seriously.
This is one to watch very closely in the coming days and weeks.
