Ajax can use Lisandro Martinez funds from Manchester United to sign Rangers ace Calvin Bassey
Ajax could reportedly use some of the windfalls they receive from Lisandro Martinez’s sale to Manchester United to sign Rangers defender Calvin Bassey.
According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, along with the Netherlands based Champions League side, the Premier League’s Brighton are also keen on signing the 22-year-old.
Martinez, who has been linked by Fabrizio Romano to complete a £42million+ move to Manchester United, will see the Eredivisie champions receive a lot of money which they can use to reinvest in a replacement.
Via Twitter, Crook wrote, “Ajax could spend some of their Martinez windfall on #RangersFC defender Calvin Bassey. Understand #BHAFC are also monitoring the versatile left-back.”
Ajax have been a factor of producing talented young players and while Martinez hasn’t exactly come up from the academy there, they got him at a low price and now are set to make a huge profit on him.
Much like Bassey, he can play as a centre-back as well as a left-back – making the interest in signing him pretty obvious.
It could be a worry for Rangers as Ajax can offer him Champions League football – something which the Glasgow giants yet have to qualify for.
The lure of the Premier League is also hard to resist, especially if it’s the chance to go play for one of the best young managers in England in Graham Potter.
Brighton’s owner Tony Bloom is a billionaire, so Gers can demand a high transfer fee if Bassey does decide he wants to leave.
They’re also aware of the windfall Ajax will generate from Martinez’s sale to Manchester United so they do sit in a pretty comfortable place.
