Rangers set to appoint Ceri Bowley as first-team coach in coming weeks
City Football Group’s Ceri Bowley is set to join Rangers, according to The Atheltic.
The website reported on 12 July that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is hoping to add another first-team coach to his Rangers staff this summer, and Bowley is expected to join in the coming weeks.
Bowley worked closely with Van Bronckhorst during the Dutchman’s six months at CFG, and he was his “main contact”. His role at Ibrox will be wide-ranging.
Van Bronckhorst is trying to rebuild the club to his own taste and wants to bring in coaches he can fully trust.
Bowley has been working as head of coaching support since 2019. He will join the likes of Dave Vos, Roy Makaay and Arno Phillips as the Dutchman’s trusted assistants at Ibrox.
The Atheltic reports that Bowley’s main task included coach recruitment, coach development and the overall football methodology employed by the network of clubs.
He will be given a wide range of roles at Ibrox, but Rangers will really benefit from an experienced coach like him.
In fact, Van Bronckhorst himself learnt their style of play taking a sabbatical from management.
Bowley is highly educated. He has a PhD degree in sports psychology and also spent time at the FA in a coach education capacity.
The CFG structure earned rich success in recent years, ranging from Manchester City to Mumbai City, and Van Bronckhorst wants to bring one of CFC’s brains behind that success to Ibrox.
While the club are actively working on adding new players, this behind-the-scene signing is really exciting.
