Rangers on verge of rubber-stamping Rabbi Matondo transfer, expected to meet squad this week

Rangers are close to rubber-stamping the major transfer of Schalke winger Rabbi Matondo, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper has reported on its website that the Welsh international is expected to meet his new teammates this week at Ibrox after the move is complete.

It is shared that a £3million deal is in the works, and that will see Matondo team up with Wales compatriot Tom Lawrence, who has also joined the club this summer.

With most of the hard work done, it looks as though it is those final pesky bits left to complete.

Matondo has already been confirmed as absent from Schalke’s pre-season training camp with transfer talks said to be the reason behind that as they headed for Austria.

That was over the weekend, with the Bears likely having made significant progress in the 48-72 hours since that happened as the move edges closer.

Arrival.

With Matondo expected to meet his new teammates this week, it hands him a couple of weeks to get used to his surroundings before the Scottish Premiership kicks off.

Then come those all-important Champions League qualifiers, something that will no doubt have been a real incentive for a young player like himself.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is getting the speed he loves in the final third, and hopefully, that can cause real nightmares for any side he comes up against.

Matondo is said to want a bigger challenge than mid-table in Belgium after a loan at Cercle Brugges and he is set to get that wish almost immediately, with Europe and silverware on the line at Ibrox.

That is exactly the type of desire we love to see, and hopefully, that comes through in his performances, and that can win us plenty of games next season and beyond.

Make him welcome boys.
