Rangers: Josh McPake loan decision to be made this week

Josh McPake’s Rangers’ future will be decided “this week” as a host of clubs chase a loan deal for the 20-year-old midfielder according to Football Scotland.

The attacking midfielder is currently training with Rangers’ first team in preseason after spending the second half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Tranmere Rovers.

It has been suggested by Football Scotland on Monday 11 July that Scottish Championship clubs, as well as Stevenage, Hartlepool and Crawley, are all interested in McPake.

The 20-year-old is “set to make his choice” by the end of the week with the academy product wanting regular first-team football in the 2022/23 season.

Loan makes sense

Another loan does make sense for McPake with the 20-year-old needing first-team action to continue his development at a vital point in his career.

McPake has had his fair share of loan moves considering he is still young, but ultimately it will stand him in good stead for later on in his career.

However, Rangers must give the attacking midfielder a first-team chance in the future.

Too often youth products aren’t given the chance to make an impression at Ibrox or depart the club.

It seems a waste for Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the club hierarchy to not rely more heavily on their youth system at Rangers.

The 20-year-old is at a stage in his career where sitting on the bench would be massively detrimental.

Let’s hope McPake finds a suitable home for the 2022/23 season and gives the Rangers boss something to think about when he returns to Ibrox next summer.

The sooner his future is sorted out the better.

In other Rangers news, a seven-figure deal is set to be completed “imminently” according to a report
