Rangers to complete £2.5m signing of Rabbi Matondo 'imminently'

Rangers are set to complete their fourth summer signing “imminently” with Rabbi Matondo set to join in a £2.5m deal, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Blues have agreed a fee with Schalke for the 21-year-old winger, who signed for the Bundesliga club three years ago from Manchester City in an £11m deal.

But after being identified as a target by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, he is now set to put pen to paper on a deal at Ibrox to join John Souttar, Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence as new signings at the club.

Matondo was left out of Schalke’s pre-season training camp to hash out the final details of the transfer, with BILD suggesting an announcement could come today [July 11].

That now seems unlikely though, but there is hope a deal can be announced very soon as Giovanni van Bronckhorst looks to bolster his squad.

Quick business

Matondo isn’t someone whose been linked an awful lot to Rangers this summer, but once the links emerged it seemed as though a deal was agreed and close to being done quickly.

That’s been a theme of business this summer, barring the arrival of striker Colak, with Lawrence’s arrival happening at the drop of a hat and Connor Goldson’s contract renewal coming from out of nowhere.

It’s a positive sign for fans, albeit frustrating considering the amount of speculation surrounding Rangers’ business affairs and the strengthening of their squad.

But Van Bronckhorst seems to know exactly what he wants and the club isn’t afraid to back him and get deals done if they feel it will help him.

It’s a positive thing going into the new season as the club looks to wrestle back the title from Celtic, with greater strength in depth only a positive thing for the team and the manager.
