Rangers: Rabbi Matondo arrival could mean high-profile Ibrox exit imminent for Ryan Kent
Rangers are closing in on a deal to sign Schalke forward Rabbia Matondo and that could well drop a hint on Ryan Kent’s Ibrox future.
Sky Sports revealed on 9 July that the Welsh attacker is closing in on a deal to join Rangers with Matondo taking Rangers’ summer incomings to four.
However, should the arrival of the 21-year-old be a concern for Rangers fans with Ryan Kent’s contract entering its final year?
The 25-year-old has been a crucial part of Rangers’ success in recent years but could well leave the club this summer.
90min revealed (6 May) that the 25-year-old is attracting interest from the likes of Leeds, Everton and Wolves.
The arrival of Matondo could well be the club preparing for Kent’s exit, with the Schalke man able to play across the a varitey of attacking positions.
Rangers can ill-afford to lose Kent for free when his contract expires in the summer of 2023.
For the sake of one more season, the club would be better off cashing in on the former Liverpool man and reinvesting into their squad.
The departure of Joe Aribo to Southampton will likley make keeping Kent at Ibrox a lot harder.
Seeing one of the club’s best players depart will hardly encourage Kent to sign a new deal at Ibrox.
Let’s hope the signing of Matondo is not a replacement for the 25-year-old and that the club hierarchy utilise the Aribo transfer fee to tie Kent and Alfredo Morelos down to new contracts at Ibrox.
The Gers can ill-afford to lose three of their attacking front-line this summer.
In other Rangers news, contract talks with a key player have hit a new impasse with a summer exit now on the cards.
