Announcement tomorrow as Rangers lose battle to sign Joe Aribo replacement

Rangers have reportedly lost the race to sign Angelo Fulgini with him set to be announced as a Mainz player on July 12.

According to the Daily Record, the German side are set to secure his services as he’s already undergoing his medical there.

He was understood to be targeted by the 55-time champions as a replacement for Joe Aribo who joined Southampton over the past few days.

Big blow?

Gers appeared to have had their heart set on signing the 25-year-old Frenchman who was doing wonders in Ligue 1.

However, for some reason, they have failed to secure his services and will now have to watch him play for another club.

It’s baffling given how Mainz cannot offer him European football either while he had a very good chance of playing in the Champions League next season at Ibrox.

This was obviously contingent on them going past the qualifying rounds but there was always that possibility which Fulgini has now let go of.

While it is a setback, it’s certainly not one losing sleep over and it’s time for Ross Wilson to go back to the drawing board and make things happen.

He’s acted quickly over the last few weeks to get deals over the line but time is of the essence with pre-season already in full swing and Giovanni van Bronckhorst would certainly want his new signings through the door soon.

In other Rangers news, Celtic and the Gers are at loggerheads over a record-breaking SPFL midfielder and a bid for him has already been tabled.
