Ross Wilson busy at work on new Rangers signings, multiple players could arrive within next week
Ross Wilson is “busy” at work on signing new players and could welcome more than one new arrival at Rangers within the next week, according to Rangers Review journalist Derek Clark.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad has already been bolstered by the arrivals of John Souttar, Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence this summer while it’s been widely reported that Wales winger Rabbi Matondo could also be joining from Schalke [Sky Sports].
Clark predicts that multiple new signings could be wrapped up within the coming days with Wilson in discussions with numerous parties.
“Ross [Wilson] is busy,” Clark wrote on the Rangers Review website in a Q&A session on Sunday (10 July). “We want to add more players to our squad. He’s busy with talking to players, talking with agents and clubs.
“You have so many people involved in those talks so I’m hopeful he can add new players in the coming week.”
Ramping things up
It’s a bit annoying that Rangers weren’t this busy earlier on in the summer transfer window because a lot of time has gone to waste really.
We could have had signings through the door before pre-season training started, especially with a player like Lawrence as he was a free agent after leaving Derby.
However, it’s better late than never and van Bronckhorst’s squad finally looks as though it’s being padded out with some half-decent players.
We’re excited about what Souttar and Lawrence can do as both of them impressed at their former clubs.
Colak is going to be one we’ll reserve judgement on because he’s a journeyman striker who struggled to get much game-time at PAOK after a decent loan spell at Malmo ended.
And then with Matondo, we’re unsure too.
He barely played at Schalke and was loaned out to Stoke and Cercle Brugge, where he played well last season but, ultimately, there’s no comparing them to Rangers.
With Joe Aribo gone, there’s more money to spend but the biggest thing that Wilson needs to do is sort out the future of Morelos or Kent.
He needs to either sell them or get them to sign new contracts.
