Rangers recruitment and interest in Kai Meriluoto proves long-term Giovanni van Bronckhorst backing
HJK striker Kai Meriluoto is wanted by Rangers this summer but he is not viewed as a first-team target for them.
Finnish media outlet MTV Urheilu reported on their interest in the 19-year-old on July 6 and shared they had expressed their intentions of signing him this summer.
Now, The 4th Official has reported that he will be joining the B team if they do manage to sign him before the window closes.
Via Twitter, T40 wrote, “It is my understanding that there is Rangers interest in Kai Meriluoto. However, he would be more of a contender for the ‘B’ team than the first team as things stand.”
Giovanni van Bronckhorst needed a first-team striker this summer and Ross Wilson and co have pulled out all the stops in order to give him that in Antonio Colak.
He is all set to become a Rangers player soon, and unlike Meriluoto, will be a first-team player.
However, the fact that they are looking to sign a number of youngsters this summer and have already secured the services of Zak Lovelace.
He is a player with a real first-team pedigree and potential and there have also been other such players that have joined.
The likes of Lancelot Pollard from Aberdeen and Bailey Rice from Motherwell have also been snapped up while they have also recruited teenagers from Inverness, Partick Thistle, AFC Wimbledon, Glentoran and other London-based academies. [Daily Mail]
This is a clear indication that they’re not just giving the Dutchman the team he needs for the present but are ensuring that he’s got a talented crop of academy players to promote and he could be at Ibrox for the long term.
