Rangers news: Antonio Colak to jet out to Portugal to join van Bronckhorst training camp

Rangers have agreed personal terms with PAOK striker Antonio Colak, who’ll sign a three-year deal at Ibrox once he’s undergone a medical in Glasgow, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported on Wednesday (6 July) that a £2million deal for the 28-year-old Croatia international is on the verge of completion and once it is, he’ll jet out to Portugal to join up with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s pre-season training camp.

The Scottish Sun also reported that Colak was due in Glasgow on Wednesday for his medical so it seems as though the deal is very close to completion now.

Deal close

Rangers have agreed deals with both PAOK and Colak so it seems as though it’s a matter of time before a move for the Germany-born striker is completed.

Of course, there’s still the medical to be done but Colak’s played for so many clubs in his career that it’s unlikely that any issues will crop up as he undergoes his examinations.

Colak has played for a lot of clubs in his career and spent 2021 on loan with Malmo before returning to Greek club PAOK in the winter.

While on loan at Malmo of Sweden, Colak scored 19 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions, with two of them coming at Ibrox to knock the Gers out of Champions League qualifying at Ibrox in August 2021.

He scored plenty of times in the Swedish top-flight but struggled for game-time after returning to PAOK, which does concern us a bit.

Alfredo Morelos’ future remains up in the air as he’s in the last year of his contract.

If Colak is seen as a replacement for Morelos, we’d be worried.

However, as a back-up option, we think he should hopefully be a solid addition to the attack.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are readying a six-figure move to sign a midfielder who’s been on trial with Bayern Munich.
