Rangers must use Joe Aribo transfer fee to keep star duo at Ibrox

Rangers star Joe Aribo is closing in on a move to Southampton, and it is crucial that the Gers use the incoming transfer fee to keep out-of-contract duo Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.

The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano revealed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday 7 July, that Aribo is set to undergo his Southampton medical before completing his move to the Saints.

The Gers are set to receive a total package of £10million for the Nigerian and the club hierarchy would be crazy not to use that money to keep Morelos and Kent at the club.

The duo are both out of contract in the summer of 2023, and if they do not extend their contracts, it is likely they will exit Ibrox this summer.

Rangers would be far better off offering the duo significantly improved terms rather than having to recruit and rebuild the majority of their front line heading into their crucial Champions League qualifiers.

Kent and Morelos are both in the prime of their careers and are loved at Ibrox.

It would be a mammoth task for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to adequately replace the pair in this summer’s transfer window.

The incoming fee for Aribo, coupled with the prospect of Champions League group stage football could be enough for Rangers to convince their remaining star men to stay put at Ibrox.

The duo must weigh up whether they want to go down as favourites at Ibrox and commit their future’s to the club, or go and test themselves elsewhere.

If they do leave the Scottish giants it is crucial that it is a step up for both players.

Premier League moves would be hard to compete with for Rangers.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are readying a six-figure move to sign a midfielder who’s been on trial with Bayern Munich.
