Rangers: Attacker Theo Bongonda wants to leave KRC Genk this summer

There is “nothing” in Rangers links to Theo Bongonda currently, however, a move for the attacker this summer is “one to watch” according to former BBC Scotland journalist Fraser Fletcher.

It had been revealed by Footnews on 6 July that Rangers were eyeing a move for the Genk attacker this summer in a deal worth £6million.

However, Fletcher who has worked for the BBC has suggested the Gers have no at interest at present in the DR Congo international.

The journalist wrote on his personal Twitter account on Thursday 7 July: “Theo Bongonda another player lots looking at, 8-10million will be price.

“He wants to leave KRC Genk.

“Traznbonspor have huge interest, nothing in links to Rangers currently.

“One to watch.”

Keep an eye on this one

This feels as if Rangers could certainly look into a move for the attacker in the coming weeks.

The Gers will need an adequate replacement for Joe Aribo after the Nigerian international’s switch to Southampton.

Bongonda managed 13 goal involvements in 29 Jupiler League games in the 2021/22 season and certainly looks an exciting talent.

Regardless of Rangers not being interested at present, it would not be a surprise to see the Gers look into a move in the coming weeks.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to invest in his squad this summer as the Gers look set to be hit with some high-profile departures.

Aribo could well be followed out of the Ibrox door by Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos this summer, with both of the Rangers stars out of contract in the summer of 2023.

If they did exit Ibrox, the Gers could well be lining up with a brand new front line come the start of the 2022/23 season.

In other Rangers news, contract talks with a key player have hit a new impasse with a summer exit now on the cards.
