Rangers likely to face competition to land Finnish teen sensation Kai Meriluoto

Rangers are interested in signing Finnish teen sensation Kai Meriluoto, according to The Fourth Official.

The online source wrote on Twitter on 6 July that the Gers retain an interest in the 19-year-old youngster, but he would be more of a contender for the club’s B team.

Finnish outlet MTV Uutiset reported on 6 July that Rangers are interested in signing the youngster and could make a move for him this summer.

Writing on their official Patreon page on 6 July, The Fourth Official added that the Bears are likely to face competition for the signature of the young talent.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan Veikkausliiga side Ilves in the Finnish top flight where he has netted six goals in 11 games so far this season.

He has progressed through the youth ranks at HJK and is considered a bright young talent.

It seems the Bears are following the old route, having signed Alfredo Morelos and Juan Alegria both signing from the Finnish top flight in recent years.

Morelos has become a massive star at the Ibrox club and the Gers will hope that Meriluoto will reach the same heights.

It seems, Van Bronckhorst wants to take him for the B side, and gradually integrate him into the senior squad. He is still very young, and it makes sense for the club to plan for the future.

At the same time, Rangers must show some urgency in the transfer market. They have been very quiet until now, but with Joe Aribo likely to depart, the Gers are can expect to bring in some new faces.

In other Rangers news, contract talks with a key player have hit a new impasse with a summer exit now on the cards.
