Rangers express interest to sign highly-rated HJK ace Kai Meriluoto
Rangers have reportedly expressed their interest to sign highy-rated HJK striker Kai Meriluoto this summer.
According to Finnish media outlet MTV Urheilu, the 19-year-old has found himself on Gers’ transfer radar after scoring six goals in 11 matches this season – which has already started.
He is currently plying his trade at Veikkausliiga side Ilves after moving there on loan at the start of the current campaign.
One for the future?
The young Finnish striker has come up the ranks at HJK which is a side playing in the top flight of the country, much like Ilves.
It makes sense for Gers to plan for the future and if they’re getting him at a decent fee then it makes sense to secure his services.
He has started the season strongly and is averaging a goal every other game which is a good return for a player still in his teenage years.
He will only get better with time and Rangers may sign him permanently in the coming weeks and then loan him back to Ilves.
It’s best that he continues his development in his home country and maybe they could consider getting him to play in Scotland in a year or two.
Whether or not HJK will be willing to do a deal, remains to be seen, but this isn’t a transfer the hierarchy should waste much of its time on now.
In other Rangers news, contract talks with a key player have hit a new impasse with a summer exit now on the cards.
